Phonics is an important part of the curriculum, using a programme called Phonics Play. The children will start to learn their phonics from reception and this continues through KS1. It is also still important as the children progress through school. It not only helps your child learn to read and work out new and unfamiliar words, it also plays a part in spelling.
The children in year 1 take a phonics screening check each year and any children that did not pass this will complete a retake in year 2. It is a combination of real words and made up/ pseudo words. The children use their phonics knowledge to read these words.
Please find below some phonics websites that will support the learning of phonics as well as an example of the phonics screening check.
